Most decks and covers fail for the same few reasons — and every one of them is preventable. Here are three things we never cut corners on.
The wooden frame under your deck holds everything up. If water sits on it, it slowly rots — and you won't notice until the boards start to sag. We seal the top of that frame so water runs off instead of soaking in, which adds years to the deck.
Hidden clip systems are faster, but they can crack or loosen in the joists and leave boards unsecured. We fasten every board directly to the frame instead — the method that lasts, not the one that's quickest.
The spot where a deck attaches to the house is the number-one place they fail. Water sneaks into the gap, the wood rots, and over time the deck can actually pull away. We seal and waterproof that connection the right way, so it stays dry and stays put.
When it comes to decking fasteners, there are plenty of systems designed to make installation quicker and easier. But faster isn't always better. Many hidden fastener clips can crack or lose their grip in the joists, leaving deck boards loose and unsecured. That's why we don't choose the fastest method — we choose the one that delivers the best long-term performance. Our preferred installation method is the Cortex® Plug & Screw System. Unlike clip systems, Cortex screws securely fasten each board to the framing, then are driven below the surface and covered with a plug made from the same decking material. The result is a clean, seamless finish with no visible screw heads that will last the life of your deck.

★★★★★"Jacob built our 12 x 24 patio cover and did an amazing job! My wife and I love it. Very professional and communication was always excellent, even through discussing ideas leading up to the build. I'll definitely be calling him back if another project comes up and happily sending referrals his way. Very happy customers here!"
